BIKEFLIP
The circular children’s bike
BikeFlip is a circular and social enterprise that gives children’s bicycles a second life. They collect old bikes and refurbish them completely in-house. With the BikeFlip subscription, you can order a bike online and have it delivered to your home. When the bike becomes too small for your child, you can exchange it for a larger one. The smaller bike then goes on to another child. They also offer an at-home repair service. In this way, BikeFlip is building a sustainable bicycle economy.
The impact of BikeFlip
The refurbished bikes help reduce CO₂ emissions. The production of new bicycles releases a significant amount of CO₂, and there is also a shortage of raw materials. The Climate Agreement states that this raw material shortage should not slow down the energy transition. With circular bikes, hardly any new raw materials are needed, and no CO₂ is produced. In this way, BikeFlip contributes to both climate goals and circularity objectives.
In addition to its environmental impact, the initiative also has a social impact. Across the country, many neighborhoods with low socioeconomic status have children without bicycles. Their parents can no longer afford rising bike prices, driven in part by the raw material shortage and scarcity in the bicycle industry. Through collaborations with social projects such as municipal neighborhood initiatives, these children can still receive a bicycle thanks to BikeFlip.
Finally, BikeFlip also creates financial impact. Every year, more than 250,000 abandoned bicycles end up in municipal bike depots. This costs municipalities significant amounts due to personnel, maintenance, and storage. Yet many of these bikes are suitable for a second life. BikeFlip can help reduce these costs. By working with municipalities, bicycles that would otherwise end up in storage can be reused.
Collaboration between BikeFlip and Ugoo
Since 2022, Ugoo has been BikeFlip’s strategic partner in subsidy acquisition. Through this partnership, we have successfully applied for WBSO funding multiple times. The “Kansen voor West” subsidy was the cherry on top.
“ The collaboration has been very successful for both parties. Through constructive consultation, goals are achieved together, which we at BikeFlip greatly appreciate. The personal attention and genuine interest of our Ugoo account manager, Anne Babijn, is truly a highlight.
In addition to exploring opportunities and applying for subsidies, Ugoo also supports the setup of internal administration.
With Ugoo’s guidance, BikeFlip has secured financing to scale up quickly. This enables them to contribute more rapidly to solving social challenges, such as the lack of bicycles for children in neighborhoods with a low socioeconomic status.
