GREENWHEELS

Greenwheels has been offering car-sharing services across the Netherlands for thirty years. You’re probably familiar with their white and red cars and vans. Currently, Greenwheels is upgrading its fully in-house developed software platform, partly to enable the transition to electric shared cars. This technological innovation directly supports their mission: making neighborhoods more livable through smart and sustainable transportation.

Creating Space Through Technological Innovation

Since 1995, Greenwheels, the largest car-sharing provider in the Netherlands, has developed its own systems for reservations, location tracking, payments, and user management. This approach has made them one of the most innovative players in the market. The current upgrade focuses on modernizing the platform to make it future-proof. This includes integrating electric vehicles, incorporating charging functionality into the app, and managing the limited charging infrastructure in urban areas.

At the same time, demand for shared cars is growing rapidly. Shared mobility is becoming increasingly popular because it is much cheaper than owning a car. Additionally, people avoid the hassle of car ownership while contributing to a better environment. This requires a scalable platform capable of smoothly handling large volumes of transactions. The impact of Greenwheels is clear: on average, 25 users share one Greenwheels car. One shared car replaces 14 private cars on the streets, and 30% of users have given up their own car. Greenwheels directly contributes to a cleaner and more spacious living environment.

The WBSO

Greenwheels’ technological innovations align perfectly with the goals of the WBSO scheme. This involves complex software development, creating new techniques, and finding innovative solutions to current challenges such as electrification, charging infrastructure, and reservations. Because everything is developed in-house, Greenwheels can respond quickly to changes and maintain its market leadership. WBSO funding allows them to continue investing in their development team and sustain their innovative capabilities.

Collaboration Between Ugoo and Greenwheels

The partnership between Greenwheels and Ugoo demonstrates how a strategic approach to subsidies can accelerate and simplify innovation. Greenwheels had a clear roadmap for the development of their platform, but translating this into a WBSO application and setting up a complete administration required significant time and attention. Ugoo actively supported this process by analyzing the roadmap and mapping it to the WBSO criteria. This quickly clarified which parts of the project qualified for the scheme and which did not. Based on this, Ugoo prepared and successfully submitted the WBSO application for Greenwheels.

Ugoo understands our ambitions and aligns perfectly with them. They manage the entire WBSO process from start to finish, allowing us to focus fully on innovation in mobility.

By maintaining regular contact throughout the year, the WBSO application stays up to date and hours can be accurately monitored. This also enables Ugoo to keep a close eye on the broader subsidy landscape and proactively identify opportunities that align with Greenwheels’ innovations, such as potential future project schemes. In this way, Greenwheels and Ugoo are building together toward a sustainable, innovative, and financially smart future.
